How to Enable Emoji on Android

How to Enable Emoji on Android
Without an emoji keyboard, your Android device isn't complete.
The craze for these tiny pictographic icons have changed the way we express ourselves, and have become a must-have feature on our smartphone and tablet keyboards.
Whether it's through pre-installed add-ons or third-party apps, Android users have a number of ways to access these colorful characters on their gadgets.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to activate emoji on your Android devices.

How to Enable Emoji on Android Flowchart

1. Does your device have the ability to read emoji?

First, determine if your phone can read and write emoji. The simplest way to figure this out is to open the Internet browser on your device and visit a webpage with emoji on it.
  • Scroll down to the "In the Unicode standard" section.
  • If you see a majority of animated characters, you're in the clear. If you only see blank symbols, then your device can't understand emoji.
If your device cannot display emoji characters, don't worry. You have the option to download apps that support emoji, such as WhatsApp.

2. Does your device have iWnn IME?

On most devices running Android 4.2 and higher, like Google's Nexus line, you can unlock a built-in graphic keyboard called iWnn IME.
  • Open your Settings menu.
  • Tap on "Language and Input."
  • If you see "iWNN IME Emoji Input," make sure it's checked.
Now, when you use the Android keyboard, you can press the spacebar and select "Emoji input method."

3. Does your device come with an emoji add-on waiting to be installed?

On Android 4.1 and higher, an emoji add-on may already come with your device. With this add-on, you can use emoji in all text fields of your phone — even those in social media apps.
Keep in mind that emoji will only appear when you type in keywords in a default Android keyboard, or by installing Google Keyboard.
  • Open your Settings menu.
  • Tap on "Language and Input."
  • Go to "Android Keyboard" (or "Google Keyboard").
  • Click on "Settings."
  • Scroll down to "Add-on Dictionaries."
  • Tap on "Emoji for English Words" to install it.
When you type with the Android or Google keyboard in any app, you can use keywords that will transform into emoji. For example, when you type words like "smile," an emoji of a smiley face will appear.
Another option is to add your own emoji keywords, since the default Android and Google keyboards have a personal dictionary option with shortcuts.

Here's how to create a shortcut for an emoji in your personal dictionary:
  • Open your Settings menu.
  • Tap on "Language and Input."
  • Go to "Android Keyboard" or "Google Keyboard."
  • Click on "Settings."
  • Scroll to "Personal Dictionary."
  • Tap the + (plus) sign to add a new shortcut.
  • Under "Phrase," insert the emoji you want, and under "Shortcut," type the keyword that triggers the emoji you want.

4. Don't have an add-on or iWnn IME? Download a third-party emoji keyboard.

If you don't have an emoji add-on or iWnn IME, you have the option to download a text messaging app that supports emoji.
To find a third-party app that has an emoji keyboard, visit Google Play and search for it. There are plenty of keyboard apps out there, such as SwiftKeySwype, Fleksy and Minuum.

How to charge your Android phone battery faster

How to charge your Android phone battery faster
What’s worse than a dead phone? One that takes too long to charge! This has certainly happened to most of us before: you’re rushing out of the door and you happen to see there’s just 5% left of battery! Here are some tips on how you can get your Android phone to charge faster!

The right plug and charger

First off, you want to ensure that you plug your phone into the wall socket, and in the best case scenario, using the charger that came with your phone, though nowadays, Android device chargers are universal. If you are in a hurry, avoid plugging your phone into your computer or laptop, because this will definitely slow down the charging speed, as will Qi wireless charging.

Get into airplane mode

Now enable airplane mode on your device to speed up charging. Depending on your device, there could be various ways to get to this. For example, on my Nexus 5, I simply long press on the power button, and select airplane mode when it appears. You can also go into the Quick Settings, by swiping down with two fingers. Every device is different, but you most likely know how to turn it on. Airplane mode blocks any wireless radios on your device, which means you won’t receive any calls, messages, internet access etc, but it’s all worth it when you think you’ll have a device that will still be on for the next few hours.

Turn that bad boy off

If you don’t actually need your phone at the moment, go ahead and turn it off completely. Obviously, any alarms or notifications won’t come through when it is off, but this is something you might just need to live without if you are racing the clock.

Switch off unnecessary features

Check to see if you have any unnecessary features on, like Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, NFC etc. Close out of all your apps and stop your phone from doing any automatic backups or updating apps from the Google Play Store. These are just small, but golden tips when you are in a rush. Plus, everything can be easily switched back to normal when you’re out of the door and sitting in the train or bus. That being said, we highly discourage doing this if you are driving.

Don't touch!

If you need to have your phone on though, and even want to leave it off airplane mode, because you have an important call, message or something of the sort, try to suppress the urge to check your phone every thirty seconds. Why? Because the screen is the biggest battery drainer of them all.
Did you try any of these suggestions? What do you do to make your phone charge faster?

How to get paid apps for free on Android

We love apps. We love free apps. And we love paid apps that cost nothing most of all. But we don't like pirates, so if you have an eye patch on your face and a parrot on your shoulder, be gone with ye! Having said that, there are plenty of legal ways to get paid apps for free on Android – including in the Play Store – so today we're going to share a few with you,or you can just download the apk. Just follow our guide on how to get paid Android apps for free.

Google Play free app of the week

Google Play has finally joined the free app party, with a new Free App of the Week section. The free app isn't promoted very well, so this could just be Google testing the waters. Either way, we'll be interested to see if more free apps are offered in future. One a week is fine to start with though.
To access the first Google Play free app of the week, you'll find it via the new Family section (we expect that to change with each new app though), where you'll find the free app banner. You're not told what the app is until the Install dialog box pops up, and even then you don't get an app summary, just the title and icon.

Amazon

The Amazon Appstore may be the oft-forgotten little brother of the Google Play Store, but one of the great things about Amazon being second best is that it offers up a free app every day to drag your attention away from Google's monster market.
You have options on how to get this, just hit the Amazon Appstore online to see the App of the Day listed up the top, or download the regular Amazon app (see screenshots below). You can't install the Amazon App Store from the Google Play Store anymore, you need to install it right from the Amazon website. Just bear in mind that to use Amazon's Appstore you will need an Amazon login.
Make sure you go into the Security settings of your Android phone first, then check the box for Allow Unknown Sources and tap OK. Once you have installed the app, go ahead and uncheck this button.
If you don't want to check the Amazon app every day, you can also grab a notification app like Free App Notifier for Amazon (which only works for the US Amazon Appstore) or Daily Free App @Amazon (for global Amazon app stores) for daily alerts - you can install them below.

''Free app of the day'' apps

AppGratis is one of my favorite apps because every morning I'm greeted by another new app for free. There's no overload of offers – just one app a day – curated by Sam the ever-comical developer with the bad jokes.
Sometimes the free apps offered by AppGratis won't be eligible for updates, so keep that in mind, and not every free app offered ever cost anything in the first place. Nevertheless, the AppGratis deals just keep coming and there's often some real gems in there. Also keep an eye on Freapp which does basically the same thing.

Google Play surveys

We've written about Google's free Play Store credit in exchange for answering surveys before. If you're not aware of it yet, Google offers its very own rewards program because, well, they want even more information about you and your habits.
Simply install the Google Opinion Rewards app, fill in a short survey and collect your coinage. You're limited to one survey a week (so you can't exactly retire early), and you don't always get paid for every survey, but you can earn up to a dollar per survey. Not bad for a few minutes of your time.
There's another app called Get Paid Apps Free where you watch short videos or download selected apps in exchange for credit that can be cashed out to buy other apps in the Play Store.

Discounted apps and sales

Sometimes apps are discounted so much they're free (or practically free). App of the Day does basically the same thing as AppGratis and Amazon, offering a free or heavily discounted app for a limited time only. There are lots of different versions of this app, so you need to get the one relevant to your location (otherwise the Play Store will tell you it is incompatible with your devices).
I should also note that other apps, like AppSales, let you add apps you're interested in to a watch list, so you can be notified when they go on sale. Not exactly free but still better than full price. Plus, AppSales occasionally post free apps too. There's another alternative called Getjar: Paid Apps for Free where downloading and trying some apps will earn you credit for downloading or upgrading others.

How To Root Your Android

Okay, Now We're Gonna Talk About Root Your Android With Kingo Android Root.

What is Android Rooting ? Android rooting is a modification process to the original system, in which the limitations are removed and full-access is allowed and thus resulting in the ability to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized apps and even facilitate the removal and replacement of the device's operating system with a custom one. Rooting your device will immediately void your warranty So Think Carefully First

Make sure you get everything right beforehand.
  • Device powered ON
  • At least 50% battery level
  • Internet connection necessary
  • USB Cable (the original one recommended)

Step 1: Free download and install Kingo Android Root.

Kingo offers the best one-click Android root software for free. Just download and install it now.

Step 2: Double click the desktop icon of Kingo Android Root and launch it.

After launching Kingo Android Root, you will see its interface as shown below.

Step 3: Plug your Android device into your computer via USB cable.

If your device driver is not installed on your Computer, Kingo will install it for you automatically. Make sure you get Internet conenction so that device driver can be downloaded. If you are using Windows 8, you may need to change some settings first. When running Kingo Android Root on Windows 8, the issue you may most likely encounter is driver installation looping.

Step 4: Enable USB Debugging mode on your Android device.

USB Debugging mode enabled is a necessary step of Android rooting process.
INPORTANT: Pay attention to your device screen for a prompt window. Tick "Always allow from this computer". If you don't, you will probably get yourself an OFFLINE DEVICE.

Step 5: Read notifications carefully before rooting your device.

Android rooting is nothing big. However, it is not exactly a small issue either. Rooting your device may open a door for you, and yet with risks.

Step 6: Click "ROOT" to root your device.

Kingo Android Root will employ multiple exploits on your device, which will probably take a couple of minutes. In the rooting process, your device may be rebooted several times. Do not be panic, it is perfectly normal. And once it begins, please DO NOT touch, move, unplug or perform any operation on your device.

Step 7: Root succeeded, click "Finish" to reboot your device.

Hopefully your device is well supported and successfully rooted by Kingo. Until your device reboots itself, do not operate.
Step 8: Check the root status of your device.
Normally, you will find an app named SuperSU installed on your device after successful rooting.
